As a writer, I'm not overly fond of the maxim that a picture is worth a thousand words, especially because I think one of the pleasures of immersing oneself in a book is the imagined world of characters and places we create in our minds.

Still, I'm an avid amateur photographer and enjoy taking pictures of places and events that remind me of the setting for my books; I often look at them while I'm writing. Here, once again, is a collage of my photos, along with excerpts from The Riesling Retribution. They include 2 Civil War reeanactments: the 144th anniversary of the Battle of New Market and the 145th anniversary of the Battle of Chancellorsville. Other photos were taken at Ball's Bluff Battlefield Regional Park in Leesburg, Virginia, Barrel Oak Winery in Delaplane, Virginia, and in and around Middleburg, Virginia.
